Should I update this?

Should I update my Firefox? I get this Java update pop up, should I do it? We get asked questions like this all the time. And the answer is most always yes, you should update these programs. Updates can be released for many reasons, but the most common updates are to patch security holes, fix any bug/glitches the program may have, or to change the interface of their program to give it a fresh look.

Now there are a couple way to update your programs. You could go to the programs website and see if there is a released version of their program that is new than yours, download it, and run the installer. This method is a little more involved, and it can be tough to know if you’re downloading the correct version. The way we prefer to apply updates to programs is with our PatchMyPC program. What this program does is it finds out for you if there are any updates to your programs, and it goes out and finds those downloads and applies them for you. With PatchMyPC it is only a couple clicks and some patience and you’re done! You can download PatchMyPC at

For those of you with the PatchMyPC program already on your computers, here is how you update your programs. Double Click on the PatchMyPC program and Click Yes when prompted for permission to run the program. When the program is open you will see a list on the left side with a bunch of programs, ignore those, we are worried about the list on the right side. Programs listed in Green are updated and programs listed in Red are outdated. If you have any programs that are listed in Red, click on the Perform X Updates button in the lower right corner and step away while the program updates your programs.
