The Windows 10 Start Menu is different than all other versions of Windows.
The main difference is all of those different sized boxes that come up when you click on the Start button. Those boxes are called pins, and are mostly there for touch screen users because it is easier to select those boxes with your finger than it is to double click an icon on the desktop. Luckily, Windows 10 allows you to change these pins to fit your needs, or completely remove them if you don’t want them.
If you wish to get rid of these pins you simply have to right click on the boxes you don’t want and select “Unpin from Start.” This is what I do with all of the pins in my Start Menu because I never use them and they are a distraction to me.
If you like using those pins, however, you can add programs to that section. To add a program from your Start Menu or your desktop to the pins section you need to right click on the program you want and select “Pin to Start.”
You can also resize the pins if you want some bigger or some smaller than others. Right click on a pin you have already created, hover your mouse over the resize section and choose the size box that you want. You can also choose to make pins a live pin. The weather pin, for example, will tell you current weather information for your selected location. If you choose to make it live, it will update itself automatically without you having to open the app.
Finally, you can move these pins around by holding left click on a pin and dragging it to your desired location.
Most people will ignore these pins and never bother with them, but if you are a touch screen user or just like to have some bigger icons to click on, pins can be a nice tool that makes the computer a little easier to use.
